FALL by Cindy Paterson‏

I am Xamien’s secret lover. Well, in my head I am and since I’m single this is completely allowed. Some of you may ask, who is Xamien, don’t worry you will meet him soon enough, but no falling in love with him. He is all mine.

Writing books is a fantastic way to have adventures that are impossible to have otherwise. I mean do you really want to fall in love with Waleron? He is so unstable and would never pick up after your dogs or clean the litter box. Not to mention the fact that he is always out killing disgusting grave robbing bug people.

Curling up with a good book and losing yourself to another time and place is the greatest reward. Being able to feel a character’s emotions, their fears, pain and love. Now that is incredible. I relish in the books that stay with me long after they have ended. This is what I strive for in my writing. To give the readers, and myself, an escape into another world, my world.

I have been writing since I was twelve. My parents, sorry mom and dad, would send me to my room for an hour every night to do homework, and instead I wrote stories. Oops, guess that is why I did so bad in math.

I have never stopped writing since then and never will. It’s like an addiction, but a good one. I adore stepping into the shoes of a character and deciding their fate. The characters are why I write. I want to fall in love with them (even the bad ones), so that I care about what happens to them in a story. If I can’t care about the characters then why bother with the story.

I live in Toronto with a menagerie of pets that keep me on my toes.

“He’s destroying me—us. I need him like my next breath, yet I’m suffocating.”

An unrequited love that has ripped her to pieces.

Delara has loved Waleron for over a century. Their intense chemistry is sensual, gripping, irresistible. But tragedy struck, and after sixty-one years of believing he was dead, Waleron returns a tortured man. He claims the man she loves is dead, yet the undeniable sexual tension still pulls them together.

“I am no longer the man you love, maitagarri. I am incapable of it.”

Waleron has given his oath to protect the Senses. He will sacrifice everything for them. But there is one Senses he has vowed to protect more than any other—Delara. He will do anything to make certain she is safe, even if it means he must deny her the love they once shared.

She is the hunted.

Delara’s life is in jeopardy and Waleron will do anything to protect her. But he never suspected that Xamien, the man he brings to help protect her is way more important to her than he ever knew.

Torn between two men and hunted by another, Delara must fight her hardest battle—herself.

1) What inspired you to write this story?
Waleron. Fall is all about him. The Senses were originally created with him in mind. An intense man with a complicated history, so much pain and torture. A love for a woman he can’t have. He is constantly growing, changing, and through Fall, the reader gets to see what drives this man to do what he does. He’s not always liked because of his cool and unemotional decisions, but we get to see where this comes from in Fall. If you’ve followed the series, in Jump and Step, you feel the tension between him and Delara and also the chemistry. You know their past is filled with love and hurt. Fall is where it all begins and ends for Waleron.

2) How long did it take you to write?
Hmmm, hard to say in months or weeks. I wrote the history between Waleron and Delara years ago when I finished JUMP. Then I set it aside and worked on STEP. When it was time to finish Fall, it took me about five months to write and then my editor and I tore it apart. It had its complications due to the love triangle and the emotions involved between all three characters. Plus, there is the suspense and the other sub-plots. Fall is my baby. I love character driven stories and this is a love story with paranormal elements surrounding the Senses.

3) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Oh boy, tough question because I love everything about writing. Probably it’s when I suddenly have a new idea and a character takes off in my mind. It’s like a whirlwind and I’ll sit down and write until I fall asleep with my laptop on my knees. For me it’s like falling in love. I have such passion and desire for this character that I can’t stop talking about him/her. I drive my co-workers crazy chatting about a character and if anyone walks into the middle of the conversation they think it’s an actual person.

4) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Promoting. It’s so much work because I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m slowly learning what I’m supposed to do and I think once I’ve done it a few times, it will become easier. I spend every moment writing, it’s my therapy. My passion. My drive to get up at six in the morning on the weekends. So when I’m promoting, I can’t be writing and I miss that.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Well, I’m going to have to say Claire Beauchamp, from Diana Gabaldon’s novel “Outlander”. I know it’s a fictional person, but I would love to experience for one day what Claire felt for Jamie. The love between them was so magical. God I read the book three times and listened to the audio twice and I never read a book twice. There are too many books I want to read, but Outlander—truly a love that is so powerful and raw. At the same time, I’d get to live for a day in Scotland. A place I’ve studied, yet never had the chance to visit.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Ha. Let me think. Besides the baking soda—grape water. I’ve had it in there for about three years. I lost the taste for it and hate to throw it out since it’s not expired. Now that you mention it, might take it to work and see if anyone wants it.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More Senses of course. If you’ve read Fall, you know who the next story is about. Then there are two more I have planned. How many after that? Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Currently, I’m working on a contemporary romance called Tear Asunder. It’s a love story, character driven and involves Sculpt, a leader singer of the band Tear Asunder and a fighter. I love complicated love stories and I’m hoping this emotionally intense novel brings forth all the emotions in the reader. Sculpt is one of those characters that came to me in the night and I got up and wrote two chapters non-stop. Damn, I’m in love with him!
