Angel Kin by Tricia Skinner

Tricia Skinner writes urban fantasy with twist of passion. She’s a former journalist who discovered her inspiration to write fiction as an escape from “real life.” Her reading tastes include fantasy (and its subgenres), paranormal, sci-fi, and history.

When she’s not writing, Tricia is a newbie “green” practitioner, fitness procrastinator, and a technology geek. Her family includes a patient husband, a demigod son, and two Great Danes. She’s active in several writing communities and enjoys interacting with readers.

While channeling Robin Hood’s “steal from the rich and give to the poor” attitude at a local politician’s house, ex-con Katie Logan witnesses a forced suicide. Dirty or not, supernatural or not, he didn’t deserve to die, especially not by his own hand. But with her record, stepping forward as a witness isn’t an option. On the run from the police and the murderer, she turns to The Bound Ones for help.

When a beautiful woman comes to The Bound Ones, half-angel assassin Cain is immediately drawn to her. But when she fingers him as the killer, he can come to only one conclusion. The twin he thought was dead is very much alive…and trying to send him a message. Unfortunately, that message is: “You’re next.”

It’s a race against time as Cain fights to save the woman he’s falling in love with before his brother Abel destroys them both.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Angel Kin owes its life to my interest in sibling rivalries. I've always been curious about brother-versus-brother stories because there's a rawness to that kind of conflict. Brothers love each other, but they are also men with a ton of testosterone fueling them. Most men are taught to be dominant, which leads to big trouble when brothers can't back down from a fight without fearing they'll be considered weak.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I wrote Angel Kin in about four months. That includes getting my critique partners to take a look, and then making revisions before the manuscript went to my editors at Entangled Publishing.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Finding a fresh take on something familiar makes writing awesome. I like to challenge what's known and accepted by twisting and flipping it until I can bring a new angle. It's so challenging and that keeps writing exciting.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Hitting a word count. I struggle to write longer, but my brain refuses to just throw crap on the page. If my manuscript is supposed to be 85k words, I fight to get it to 75k. After ripping it apart, I end up around 65k. I hope I'll get better at writing longer without killing the pace as I develop as an author. I'm new to this.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I'd want to be actor Tom Hiddleston. I admire his energy and his appreciation for what he's accomplished so far in his career. He looks like he's having fun and he smiles so much that I wonder what makes him so happy. That's a man who is enjoying life.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Two bottles of some horrible beer that was purchased about two years ago. We had guests who brought a six-pack and they left them. I tried one of the three remaining bottles and nearly choked on how awful it was. I guess I should invite them back so they can drink that nasty crap.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
In August, Angel Lover is set for release. That's Kasdeja's story and he's decided to go undercover in the enemy organization. Of all my half-angel assassins, his supernatural power doesn't help much as a weapon against someone. Imagine going into the lion's den without any weapons. Apart from the Angel Assassins series, I'm working on a couple of projects I hope will find a home when I'm done.
